Man, 29, investigated for making false police report about stolen IC

A man, 29, thought he could avoid paying the replacement fee for losing his NRIC by lodging a police report and claiming to be a victim of snatch theft. Now he is in the soup and investigated for making a false report instead.

Police said the man had made the police report on March 25, claiming that his wallet was stolen near Canberra Road. However, follow-up investigations by officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and CCTV footage showed that this was untrue.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San, warned of the dire consequences of making such untrue reports and wasting police resources.

If found guilty of providing false information to a public servant, the suspect can be jailed for up to a year, fined up to $5,000, or both. Investigations are ongoing.
