Lui Tuck Yew to attend Asean Transport Ministers' Meeting

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew will attend the 19th Asean Transport Ministers' Meeting from Thursday to Friday in Pakse, Laos.

The transport ministers will discuss issues on regional cooperation in air, land, and maritime transport, as well as transport facilitation initiatives. They are expected to sign a protocol to support the liberalisation of aviation-related services and the broader Asean goal of economic liberalisation and integration.

The ministers will also meet their counterparts from China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to discuss transport cooperation matters. The Asean ministers are expected to sign a second protocol of the Asean-China Air Transport Agreement, which when ratified will allow parties to operate flights beyond specified points in Asean countries and China to points in third countries.

Mr Lui will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Land Transport Authority, and the Maritime and Port Authority.
