The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is asking commuters to come up with names for 16 Thomson Line stations which are expected to open from 2019.

In a statement Tuesday, it gave some general guidelines for the naming exercise. The proposed names should identify the location, illustrate the history and heritage of the station's surrounding and reflect Singapore's multiracial and multicultural character where possible, it said.

Names should not take after names of public structures, commercial or residential developments.

Suggestions with brief explanations can be sent to http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg, by fax to 6396-1148, or by mail to 1 Hamsphire Road, Blk 8 Level 2 Singapore 219428. The exercise ends on Feb 17.
