The police have urged netizens not to spread unsubstantiated information about Sunday night's riot in Little India as this would not be helpful to their investigations.

In a post on the Singapore Police Force's Facebook page on Monday afternoon, police said that such rumours may also generate unnecessary public alarm which can cause fear and panic in the community.

Facts were also laid out in the post in order to clarify certain rumours which have been circulating online. They said that police officers "displayed maximum restraint and did not fire any weapon throughout the incident".

"This also prevented the incident from escalating further," said the police.

The police also resolved the situation and had it under control within an hour.
