LAW Minister K Shanmugam has hailed retired Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong as one of Singapore's greatest jurists and legal minds.

Mr Shanmugam paid tribute in Parliament on Monday afternoon to CJ Chan, 75, who retired last week after a long and brilliant career in law.

Noting that the CJ's post carries a heavy responsibility, he said the country has been "singularly fortunate" that CJ Chan has discharged that responsibility for the past six years.

He added: "He had an excellent judicial temperament, no flourish, no hyperbole, no drama..."
