THIS year's korban ritual has been successfully completed, the Singapore Mosques Korban Committee said today in a press statement.

The ritual involves the slaughtering of an animal on Hari Raya Haji to mark Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to God. The meat is given to needy families.

The committee said that the ritual was carried out at 16 mosques and 2 Malay/Muslim organisations last Friday and Saturday.

Aqiqah rites, in which animals are slaughtered by parents of newborns or young children as an act of worship to express their gratitude, were also carried out last Thursday at six mosques.
