Kembangan-Chai Chee Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) has donated $12,600 to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), which will go towards subsidising treatment cost for 35 dialysis patients from the district.

The money will pay for a year's supply of artificial kidneys, which cost $30 each. The devices, which have to be replaced every month, help remove waste material and excess fluid from patients' blood.

The donation comes from the CCC's Community Development and Welfare Fund, and was presented to the NKF by Kembangan-Chai Chee Grassroots Adviser Tan Chuan-Jin.

Typically, dialysis patients undergo dialysis three times a week, with each session lasting about four hours. Dialysis treatment here is heavily subsidised, with more than half the patients paying $50 or less a month.
