A truck driver who failed to help a severely injured pedestrian he had hit was sentenced to six weeks' jail and banned from driving on Wednesday.

Shann Menon alias Sanjay Menon Sudhamodaren Menon, 28, who had pleaded guilty to three charges, was fined $6,000 and banned from driving for five years for negligently causing the death of Mr Ng Chiew Wan, 78, along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 at 8.12pm on Jan 24, 2010.

He was fined another $2,000 for causing hurt to the front seat passenger, Mr Silvaraj Arulagan, 34, by doing an act so negligently as to endanger life.

He had failed to see Mr Ng who was crossing the road then and in trying to avoid him, lost control of the vehicle, which mounted the centre divider and hit a tree, causing injuries to Mr Silvaraj, a forklift driver.
