A man who caused the death of a motorcyclist by driving dangerously and got a friend's younger brother to be a false witness was jailed for 30 months on Thursday.

Sivabalan Suppiah, 35, a self-employed man in the cleaning business, will be banned from driving for 12 years after his release from prison.

The divorcee with a young son had pleaded guilty to two charges - causing the death of despatch rider Jalal Abdul Rahman, 51, through dangerous driving along Upper Aljunied Road on March 7, 2010, and intentionally perverting the course of justice.

A district court heard that he was negotiating a left bend at a fast speed of 91kmh when he lost control of his car and caused it to swerve to the right.
