Important for senior citizens to take active steps to stay healthy: Heng Swee Keat

While the Pioneer Generation Package will provide senior citizens with a safety net, it is important that they keep themselves healthy as well, said Education Minister Heng Swee Keat on Saturday.
Mr Heng attended a community event at Tampines Central Community Complex, where he explained to some 250 elderly residents what health care benefits they would enjoy under the $8 billion package. He spoke in English and Mandarin.
Speaking to reporters afterward, he said: "Ultimately its not just about the financial assistance when you fall sick, but the ability to take active steps to keep yourself well.
"Keeping our senior citizens physically active, mentally engaged and socially involved are very important ways of maintaining wellness."
