ICA warns of scammers impersonating as its officers

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has issued a public advisory warning members of the public of an ongoing phone scam. Over the past week, ICA has received reports of suspicious callers claiming to be ICA officers, it said in a statement on Friday.

The scammers would use a phone number similar to the ICA hotline, which is 6391- 6100, and tell the victim they had not filled in their Disembarkation/Embarkation cards properly. They would then ask for funds to be transferred to the caller to fix this problem.

"ICA would like to clarify that such calls are not authentic. ICA does not call up members of public for funds transfer pertaining to immigration facilities," said the statement adding that the authority takes "a serious view" on the matter and has notified the police about the scam.

Members of public who believe they have received such scam calls should not transfer any money, and should immediately call '999' to report the incident.
