Health workers urged to focus on meaningful use of patients' data

After the rolling out of the National Electronic Health Records (NEHR) system, the more meaningful use of patients' medical data is the next step to take.
To do that, health-care workers need to work closely with IT professionals, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Tuesday.
He encouraged them to take advantage of training courses such as those conducted by the Centre for Health Informatics at the National University of Singapore. Set up this January, it has trained more than 100 IT and health-care professionals so far.
Having a clinical repository of information is only the first step, the minister said at a health-care IT conference at the Marina Bay Sands. "What is more important is how we can use that information to pre-empt adverse medical conditions and deterioration in the condition of the patient."
