Lose weight and win prizes - this is what residents are being told, as part of the first national campaign to incentivise healthy weight management.

The Health Promotion Board (HPB) launched its One Million KG Challenge on Friday in response to Singapore's growing obesity rate.

The HPB's 2010 National Health Survey, the latest data available, showed that 11 per cent of Singaporean adults aged 18 to 69 were obese in 2010, up from 7 per cent in 2004.

Under the challenge, participants who complete its activities can win prizes, including a car and a holiday package, especially if they achieve their weight management goals.
