Green Awards to include pre-schools, special needs schools

The Singapore Environment Council (SEC) is opening its School Green Awards to include pre-schools and special needs schools.

The award recognises schools on their efforts in reducing water and electricity consumption, as well as green initiatives implemented.

Last year, 284 schools took part in the programme, of which 261 received awards. The SEC hopes to bring the participating strength up to 300 this year, and 370 by 2015.

"Everyone can play a part in protecting our environment, regardless of whether one if young, old, or has special learning needs," said Mr Jose Raymond, executive director of the SEC.
