A picture can tell a thousand words, so the authorities are rolling out graphics-based messages about traffic conditions on 76 signboards along six major arterial roads, from Monday.

The road corridors are: Woodlands Road to Bukit Timah Road, Upper Thomson Road to Thomson Road, Portsdown Avenue to Still Road South, Upper Serangoon Road to Serangoon Road, Orchard Road to Bras Basah Road, and Nicoll Highway to Shenton Way.

Mr Cheong Mun Onn, manager of the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) intelligent transport systems development division, said: "Motorists should find it easier to understand and have a better appreciation of the ground situation."

Previously, the messages on these signboards were text-based except for the one located closest to an incident site.
