Government to continue support for budding artists
The Government will continue to support the arts as it is "not easy" for budding artists to get a start, said Education Minister Heng Swee Keat.
"I understand that it is not easy for budding artists to create good works that are well received by the community," he said in a speech to more than 500 students at the convocation ceremony for Lasalle College of the Arts on Wednesday at the Singapore Expo.
Students interested in becoming artists can tap government funding offered by various agencies, including the National Arts Council, DesignSingapore Council and the Media Development Authority (MDA), Mr Heng added.
Those keen on a media career, for example, can apply for MDA grants, he said, adding that up till July, MDA has pledged to spend $10.8 million and funded more than 400 projects.
