Geylang slashing: Police arrest 4 men for causing grievous hurt

The police have arrested four male suspects between the ages of 21 and 34, after they allegedly used parangs to slash a man in Geylang last Thursday.

In a statement released on Monday evening, police said they were were notified of an incident on May 9 around 5.30pm at Geylang Lorong 23, where they found an injured man in his 30s. The victim was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and is currently in a stable condition, the statement said.

Police said a 42-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested along Geylang Lorong 9 on May 12 following a four-day round-the-clock operations involving more than 40 officers from the Bedok Police Division. Officers then arrested another three suspects in the vicinity of Champions Way in Woodlands. Two parangs were also seized. Police said the attack arose "due to a dispute between known parties".

All four suspects will be charged in court on May 14 for voluntary causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. If convicted, they may face life imprisonment or 15 years in jail. They may also be fined or caned.
