A French homemaker has been fined $8,000 for stealing a $32,800 handbag from a store at Marina Bay Sands.

Olivia Lemercier Maurice, 42, pleaded guilty last Wednesday to the theft of a Ralph Lauren Ricky Alligator 33, honey brown-coloured bag at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands on Bayfront Avenue on Jul 30.

The mother of two was on holiday with her family when she committed the offence.

The prosecution had asked for a jail sentence because of the high value of the item stolen, among other reasons.
