Four men arrested for affray in Little India

Four men, aged 24 to 30, have been arrested for committing affray at Chander Road in Little India.

At about 10.30pm on Tuesday, police were alerted to a case at the open-air carpark in Chander Road - which is within a designated special zone where restrictions on the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol apply - where a man was assaulted by three others and carried into a grey van.

After investigations, which included reviewing CCTV footage, officers from the Central Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department identified the suspects and the registration number of the van. The four men were arrested on Wednesday along Kang Ching Road in Jurong.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had consumed liquor and a dispute had subsequently broken out between them. The alleged offence took place outside of the restricted hours for the sale and public consumption of alcohol.

Investigations are ongoing. If convicted of affray, or group fighting in a public place that disturbs peace, the men face a maximum punishment of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
