Two of the former SMRT drivers, who were charged for instigating a strike, have alleged in a video online that they were assaulted while in police custody.

In a statement Tuesday night, the police said that these are "serious allegations made by the two defendants on video". It added that the former drivers should file a police report, so that the police can investigate into the allegations.

Their lawyers can also raise this matter in court when the case against them is heard, it added.

The police added that as the case is currently before the court, it is not appropriate for them to comment on the case.

The four former SMRT drivers from China were among the 171 drivers who took part in a strike on Nov 26 and among the 88 who continued to stay away from work on Nov 27. They are said to be the ringleaders and have until Feb 1 to decide whether to accept the prosecution's offer of amended charges.
