Buy a Korean bento at $40, and you may be feeding 150 hungry people.

This is part of an initiative in conjunction with World Food Day on Oct 16 by non-profit organisation Food Bank Singapore, which redistributes food donations to the needy. Called FoodLanthropy, the event will be launched on October 18 at Sarang Korean Bistro in Orchard Central.

The proceeds from every set meal go to buying 25 meal packets for the needy. Each meal packet - made up of dehydrated rice, soy, vegetables, flavouring, and essential vitamins and minerals - can feed six people. These meal packets will be given to the needy here and in the region.

FoodLanthrophy will be a monthly event at different restaurants. Food Bank Singapore hopes to sell 1,200 Korean bentos to cover the cost for 30,000 meal packets. Those who also wish to help pack the meal packets may also volunteer to do so. Visit Foodbank's website for more information.
