First students' challenge held to develop rehabilitation technology for the disabled

Two students from Temasek Polytechnic have created Singapore's first kinetic game system to help spastic children learn to walk. They received some help from the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore to come up with the game and there are plans to develop the prototype for use in its therapy centre.

The team was one of the ten entries that received a top award at the first students' challenge held to develop innovative solutions to help the disabled. In total there were 57 entries for the competition.

The ten teams that won awards will represent Singapore to compete in the seventh international convention on rehabilitation and assistive technology held in Korea in August.

Held on April 5, the competition is co-organised by Singapore Therapeutic, Assistive and Rehabilitation Technologies Centre and the Centre for Enabled Living. It is open to students from tertiary institutions.
