First Sit-A-Thon draws 1,200 participants, event highlights plight of kidney patients
About 1,200 participants took part in the first ever Sit-A-Thon on Sunday.
Organised by the National Kidney Foundation, the event held at Ngee Ann City aims to raise awareness of kidney disease in Singapore. Three people are diagnosed with kidney failure every day.
The participants, which comprise students and members of the public, will be sitting for four hours from 3 to 7pm to understand the plight of kidney patients, who have to sit for four hours during each dialysis session.
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing, who was the guest of honour at the event, said that the social and emotional well-being of patients should also be taken care of, besides the financial aspect. He added that more workers are needed in the social service sector.
