No reported injuries in Chinatown restaurant fire
Plumes of smoke were seen above the Chinatown area on Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out in a Chinese restaurant on New Bridge Road.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call informing them of the fire at about 5.35pm, said a spokesman. Three fire engines, two fire bikes and a support vehicle were despatched to the scene.
Mr Andy Lee, 32, who runs retail outlet Oyoge Taiyaki, which sells Japanese mochi snacks next to the restaurant, said he did not see any fire but "there was a lot of smoke coming of the restaurant".
The fire which involved a rooftop duct was extinguished using two water jets and a fire extinguisher, said an SCDF spokesman. No one was injured in the incident.
