A motorist who failed to keep a proper lookout for an elderly cyclist and caused his death through his negligence was fined $10,000 and banned from driving for four years on Thursday.

Salesman Wong Yew Foo, 38, was also fined another $2,500 and banned from driving for two years for drink driving along Jalan Bukit Merah on April 4 this year when the accident happened.

A court heard that Wong had dinner with his friends at a coffeeshop in Geylang that evening. They ordered a total of six bottles of beer, of which Wong consumed two.

He left at about 8.45pm and took one of his friends home in his car.
