She had appealed through District Judge Siva Shanmugam that defence counsel do not ask "too many insulting or embarrassing questions".
But prosecution star witness Cecilia Sue Siew Nang showed that she could hold her own as she sparred with Senior Counsel Tan Chee Meng, the defence lawyer for Ng Boon Gay.
Several times over her three-day testimony last week, Ms Sue drew chuckles from the gallery with her rebuttals.
