Fatal accident on PIE: Man who died was a construction worker from India

The man who was killed in Friday morning's accident on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), was a construction worker from India.

The 29-year-old was seated at the back of the lorry with his fellow workers when a car apparently rear-ended the larger vehicle at high-speed, causing it to tilt over, said an eyewitness.

The remaining ten men on the lorry - including its 52-year-old driver were injured, and taken by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulances to Changi General Hospital.

The female driver of the car was also hurt and admitted for treatment.

The SCDF said a call for assistance was received at about 7.24am.

Four ambulances and one fire-bike were dispatched to the scene.
