A former chairman of a residents' committee who stole $26,000 from an elderly neighbour was jailed for four weeks today.

Lee Shwu Huah, 47, was chairman of the Kampong Glam Selegie RC at the time of the offences in April this year. She had pleaded guilty to three counts of theft of $1,000 each from Madam Agatha Au Que Yin, 81, by using her ATM card to withdraw money from her savings account on April 11 and 12.

Twenty-three other charges were taken into consideration.

The court heard that Lee accompanied Madam Au to DBSBank's Rochor branch on April 11 to apply for a POSB ATM card and kept it for safekeeping. Madam Au suffered from amnesia.
