Ex-postman jailed 3 weeks for stealing parcel with clothes

A postman at the delivery base in Kallang filched a parcel from a trolley at 3pm on Jan 22 this year. Ang Tzer Horng, 28, later took it to the car park and stuffed its contents into his bag. These included dresses, jeans and bikinis from the British fashion label Asos and a purse.

After work, Ang, a Malaysian, and headed to his home in Johor on his motorcycle. However, he was stopped at the Woodlands Checkpoint and was arrested as he was unable to explain the women's apparel in his bag. He was jailed for three weeks by a district court on Thursday.

District Judge Christopher Goh said that Ang deserved a stiffer sentence than the usual two weeks' jail as he was a postman when he committed the offence. The Malaysian, who did not have a lawyer, had pleaded for leniency, saying that he regretted committing the crime and was very remorseful.

The jail sentence was backdated to the date of his remand on Jan 24.
