SHENZHEN – Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong kickstarts a visit to China on Tuesday that will see him meeting with Chinese supremo Xi Jinping and a potential future one in Guangdong party chief Hu Chunhua.

At the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), a China-led economic summit taking place this weekend in Hainan island, Mr Goh and fellow board members of the forum will call on President Xi.

Ahead of the forum, Mr Goh will visit the southern Guangdong province and meet with Mr Hu, a high-profile political star highly touted to succeed President Xi as the next Communist Party chief possibly in 2022.

In a statement on Monday outlining Mr Goh’s trip itinerary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he will also visit the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City – a bilateral project aimed at  building a 123 sq km business park for top talents and knowledge-based industries in the provincial capital.
