The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) set up to integrate early childhood care and education in Singapore will begin work on April 1.

The Government agency will oversee the regulation and development of kindergarten and child and infant care programmes for children below the age of six. It will also facilitate the training and development of early childhood educators, and conduct public outreach activities for parents to learn about their child's early development, said a joint statement by the Ministry of Social and Family Development and Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

ECDA will be jointly overseen by the two ministries. It will be helmed by chief executive Dr Lee Tung Jean, who will move over from her current appointment as director of the energy division in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
