A train fault disrupted service on the opening day of the Downtown Line 1 for about 15 minutes.

The fault took place at around noon near Bayfront station, and delayed train service from Bugis to Chinatown.

SBS Transit senior vice-president for corporate communications Tammy Tan said: "There was a temporary disruption to service at about 12pm today due to a train fault but this was quickly resolved and full service resumed not long after."

The six-station, 4.3km Downtown Line 1 opened Sunday, and comprises the following stations: Chinatown, Telok Ayer, Downtown, Bayfront, Promenade and Bugis. Rides on the line are free till Jan 1.

Commuters travelling to the Downtown Line from other lines have to tap their fare cards and exit at a Downtown Line interchange station before entering the station again to ride for free along the six stations.
