Despite Singapore's falling birth rate, a survey has found that a high proportion of Singaporeans who are single want to get married and have children.

A survey by the National Population and Talent Division released Thursday found that 83 per cent of single respondents wanted to get married, close to the 85 per cent who responded in a similar survey done in 2007.

The survey also found that 80 per cent of single respondents wanted to have two or more children, just slightly lower than the 84 per cent in the last survey.

Among married respondents, 84 per cent intended to have two or more children, similar to the 84 per cent in the 2007 survey.

The survey also found that many are unaware that male and female fertility declined with age while female respondents indicated that they wanted both family and employment.

The majority of respondents also felt that they had good work-life balance.

The National Population and Talent Division surveyed 4,646 respondents aged 21 to 45 years old for this survey, of which 2,120 were single and 2,526 were married individuals.
