Defence lawyer questions CPIB interview processes

Defence lawyer Tan Chee Meng on Wednesday questioned the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau's (CPIB) interview processes, grilling its deputy director of investigations for 3 1/2 hours.

This led Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Ken Hwee to accuse the senior counsel of "casting aspersion" on the integrity of the CPIB.

He also asked the lawyer to withdraw his statement that the anti-corruption agency was "bent on proving charges" against former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay.

Mr Tan Chee Meng clarified that his allegations were not against the CPIB but Mr Teng Khee Fatt, who was the lead investigator for the case, and he stood by them.
