Children can be doctors for a day at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital

Patients who visit Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital on Saturday might be a little surprised to find the doctors in the hallways looking rather young.

The hospital is launching a programme where children can role play as doctors in a hospital setting. Donning scrubs and hair nets, they will learn how to conduct a "surgery" in an operating theatre as well as bathe, clean and diaper a baby in a nursing room, among other activities. These will be carried out in wards within the hospital.

Called Doctor for a Day, the programme aims to help children aged five to 12 better appreciate the healthcare industry and inspire them to become medical professionals when they grow up, said the hospital's chief executive officer Dr Kelvin Loh.

The programme will be part of the one-year-old hospital's inaugural Experience Day. Adults may also sign up for health seminars or tour the hospital.
