CGH prepares for more hip fracture cases
Three out of four patients operated on this year for hip surgery at Changi General Hospital (CGH) have walked again with help, whereas only one in two were able to do so in 2009.
When doctors recommended that Madam Sha'Orah Salleh, 78, go for hip replacement surgery last month after she had a fall, her family initially hesitated.
They were worried that her high blood pressure and diabetes would cause complications.
To allay such concerns and provide more holistic treatment for hip fracture patients, CGH set up a specialised team two years ago where geriatric medicine consultants work alongside orthopaedic consultants to ensure that patients are operated on safely and as soon as possible.
