Case, SMWA aim to improve motor workshop image

Car owners have long grumbled over the vastly different prices for repairs and overcharging. With the new scheme, the industry hopes to improve its image and give consumers confidence when dealing with the workshops. -- TNP FILE PHOTO

The motor workshop industry is working on an accreditation scheme to improve its image with customers.

In a first for the industry, the Singapore Motor Workshop Association (SMWA), together with the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case), will launch the CaseTrust standard for motor workshops in the next six months.

Details on how to be accredited are still being worked out for the scheme, which industry watchers say will likely lead to more transparent, itemised repair bills and proper procedures to handle customer complaints.

The CaseTrust standard is also used for spas and maid agencies, among other industries.
