Singaporeans and permanent residents will be able to enjoy free entry to all national museums and heritage institutions from May 18.

Museum-goers can also expect expect a more comprehensive set of works on display as the Government pumps $62 million over the next five years into acquiring and conserving artworks and artefacts in the national collection.

This was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong in the ministry's maiden speech in Parliament on Friday.

The move, Minister Wong said, aims to make national museums here more accessible, and better able to "tell the Singapore Story, in a way that resonates with Singaporeans".
