Assistant accountant jailed 17 months for stealing, forging company cheques
An assistant accountant was jailed a total of 17 months on Friday for stealing a cheque book from his employer and forgery.
Chan Hon Wai, 34, was working at SPE Networks-Asia, a company in the media and entertainment business, when he stole a Standard Chartered Bank cheque book on Oct 10 this year.
He pleaded guilty to theft and two counts of forgery involving $66,768.
In all, he forged four cheques totalling $123,000, which was used to pay loansharks and bookies.
