Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Chia, who fell into a coma last Tuesday, is still in critical condition.

The 75-year-old former head of the Roman Catholic Church here suffered a brain haemorrhage following a fall in Punggol Park, near the Catholic Spirituality Centre where he lives.

In an update, the Catholic Church said that due to the extent of his injury, doctors at Mount Alvernia Hospital, where he is being cared for in a private ward, are still working to clear a large blood clot in his brain. The good news is that bleeding in his brain has stopped, the Church said.

"Given his present condition and the fear of infection, no visitors will be allowed for the time being. We request that you continue to pray for His Grace's speedy recovery," the Church added.
