85 arrested in 48-hour islandwide anti-drug operation

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 85 suspected drug offenders in a 48-hour islandwide operation on Monday and Tuesday.
Of these, 78 were arrested for suspected drug abuse and 7 were arrested for involvement in drug trafficking.
In one case, CNB officers arrested a 56-year-old woman at a coffee shop in Aljunied. Eleven straws of heroin were recovered from her handbag. Two men, aged 43 and 44, believed to be her clients, were also arrested in the vicinity. If convicted of trafficking a controlled drug, she faces a minimum of five years' imprisonment. The drug abusers will be investigated for drug consumption.
In another case, a 24-year-old woman was arrested in a Housing Board flat in Ang Mo Kio, where officers seized three straws of heroin, two packets of methamphetamine (ice) and drug trafficking paraphernalia, including a weighing scales and empty straws.
