8,000 turn up for race to commemorate orang utan Ah Meng
More than 8,000 runners turned up at the Singapore Zoo on Sunday morning for an annual run to commemorate the popular orang utan Ah Meng.
The Safari Zoo Run was conceived six years ago in honour of Ah Meng, one of Singapore's most iconic personalities, which died of old age in February 2008.
Sunday's race across the zoo and Night Safari took runners through lush green paths and animal exhibits.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the care of endangered animals at the Night Safari and Singapore Zoo.
