7.1 million visited Singapore in first half of 2012

Singapore attracted 7.1 million visitors in the first half of this year, 11 per cent more than the same period last year.

Tourism spending also increased by 7 per cent. From January to June, about $11.5 billion was spent in areas such as shopping and accommodation.

Singapore continues to be popular with tourists from Indonesia, China, Malaysian, India and Australia. Visitors from these five countries made up more than half of total visitor arrivals.

With the large influx in tourists, the hotel occupancy rate was at a high of 86 per cent.
