The police have arrested six men and a woman for allegedly setting off improvised explosive devices in Yishun.

Officers responded to a call on Sunday at about 4am, informing them that a group was seen setting up fireworks.

When they arrived, the group, aged between 22 and 26, were found to be using improvised devices that were constructed using sparklers. They were taken in and some burnt sparklers were seized as case exhibits. Investigations are ongoing.

The police said that the importation and sale of some types of sparklers are legal in Singapore, but the use of sparklers should be done in a responsible manner according to the safety guidelines prescribed by the manufacturer.
