231 arrested in two-day law enforcement operations

In a number of concurrent busts around the island, police and other law enforcement agencies nabbed 231 people, including several suspected to have been responsible for the recent spate of vehicle paint splash incidents. The suspects, made up of 138 men and 93 women, were between 15 and 69 years old.
The operations, which began on 18 December and ended in the early hours of Thursday, netted 149 persons believed to be involved in unlicensed moneylending activities. These included unlicensed moneylending account holders, runners and harassers.
Another 82 people were arrested in raids and checks carried out at public entertainment outlets, coffee shops, youth hangouts and back-alleys in areas such as Geylang, Orchard, Clarke Quay, Selegie, Pasir Ris, as well as various housing estates.
The suspects were arrested for various offences, such as being members of unlawful societies, drug offences, immigration offences and vice-related offences. The checks were conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department, together with Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Customs and the Health Sciences Authority.
