$200 million research fund set aside for air traffic management
Singapore has set up a $200 million kitty to fund research into air traffic management.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew who announced this on Monday said there is a need to develop new technology and solutions to cope with an expected increase in the demand for air travel.
Speaking at the Singapore Aviation Academy, he said: "To meet this demand and manage the complexities associated with the increased air traffic, we need to enhance our aviation system's capacity and put in place the right air traffic management solutions."
Singapore aims to be a centre of excellence for air traffic research by attracting research institutes and think tanks to set up shop here, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said.
