2 docs penalised for lax prescription of Subutex

ANOTHER two doctors have been taken to task for the lax prescription of Subutex, a medication used to wean addicts off heroin, but which can itself become addictive.

Following complaints by the Ministry of Health in June 2007, the Singapore Medical Council held an inquiry and found both Dr Kong Kok Leong, 41, and Dr Eric Chong Yu, 38, guilty.

Both were working at King Medical Clinic at Serangoon Garden Way.

Dr Kong, who faced 19 charges, has been censured, suspended for four months, fined $7,000 and has to pay all costs.
