16 held in crackdown on loanshark syndicate

SIXTEEN people believed to be part of a loanshark syndicate were arrested for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
The 13 men and three women, aged between 15 and 60, were arrested in a 16-hour operation starting on Tuesday afternoon.
Five of them will be charged in court today under the Moneylenders Act, and investigations against the others are on-going, said the Singapore Police Force in a statement yesterday.
The raids were conducted at various parts of Singapore following intensive investigations by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), supported by the Police Intelligence Department.
