Singapore is on track to reach its target for locally produced fish.

Its 130 fish farms are expected to produce 8 per cent of local consumption by the year end, up from 4.5 per cent in 2009, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said on Friday.

The AVA wants to raise the figure to 15 per cent eventually.

It has been working closely with fish farmers at the 120 coastal farms and 10 inland farms through research and development and providing technical advice to raise productivity, said its chief executive Tan Poh Hong.
