The Health Ministry has a $10 million fund set aside for the next five years, to help families pay for the treatment that their children need.
The Medifund Junior scheme, which was revealed by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Tuesday morning, can be used to help children from needy families up to the age of 18.
The Government is also extending a helping hand for those with congenital ailments that are not covered by insurance.
From March 1, children born with congenital problems will also be automatically covered by MediShield insurance. Even adults whose congenital problems have not yet been diagnosed will enjoy insurance coverage if the problem surfaces from March onwards, and requires treatment. Those born and diagnosed by the end February however will not be covered under MediShield insurance but can tap on the new Medifund Junior.
